One needs to
only look to your local neighborhood in Baghdad or Kandahar to
see the failures and inhumanity of imposing so-called democracy
on a people who have not been at any of the
seating-limited-roundtable-discussions nor have had any access
to the boardrooms of multinational corporations greedily
organizing wars, and pitting people against their neighbors in a
struggle over their own resources. To be satisfied with any
renditions of democracy that exist in your community, to submit
to the level of freedom which you are led to believe is within
your hands, is the most lethal blow to your existence. The
ongoing trend of commercialization, privatization, and military
aggression push citizens to the fringes of any definition of
democracy. It is under these circumstances, that we encourage
all forms of progressive social action that are aimed at
reclaiming communities, forging alternatives, and confronting
war profiteers and elitist vultures. This page, will act as a
conduit for all activists around the world, particularly those
working in and around Iraqi issues, but with the understanding
that all forms of oppression are connected, from the fight for
affordable housing in the West to the fight against home
demolition closer to home, the issues are different in gravity,
but similar in the way they fall under the control neo-liberal
globalization and imperialism. This section will feature two
parts. A ‘listing’, which will depend on activists and
organizers to share their events with the rest of the world, and
will enable our readers to learn about events in their own
community be empowered by others that are out of reach, will
capture the essence of this section. We strive to highlight the
power of social justice activism, and the individuals that face
oppression, marginalization, and criminalization as activists
and organizers worldwide strive to be proactive and creative
forces in their communities, and regain our collective dignities
and ultimately, save our lives. |
