”Patriotsm.”
Accustomed to adversity
Inhabitants of a foreign land
No recollection of patriotism
On foreign ground we stand
With ambitions high as mountains
And love as deep as the sea
The longing for the day is persistent
The day in which we’ll be free
Free of all the heartache
Free from all the pain
The day in which we’ll gain sunshine
From endless days of rain
To walk among our people
Speaking our own tongue
Ceaseless fears will have ended
And songs of patriotism shall be sung
”Demise.”
Your life and earth on this day part
Determined by the stillness of your heart
A single tear I will not cry
For I know with him you reside in the sky
The earth now seems so hollow and cold
Nothing to live for, no one to hold
Eagerly anticipating the moment when
You and I will unite again
Yet time is very cruel sometimes
Slowly, but surely, it will go by
But I can’t stand the loneliness anymore
And life on me has closed its door
So fate in my own hands I shall take
Though the will of God I will forsake
Let no one cry a tear for me
For now I’ve met my destiny
To be with the one I truly love
I’ll leave this earth and the heavens above
”Girl.”
Only when you walk in her shoes for a day,
Will you understand tears
The feeling of helplessness is unbearable
Clinging to false, unachievable hopes of freedom
She cries herself to sleep every night
Sadness has become all too familiar among her people
And justice is always unjust
She fears her own shadow
And is accustomed to darkness And prays that someone
will someday shed light upon her dying nation
Prayers are left unanswered
And her cries are left unheard
She dreams of peace and love
And is awakened by the deafening sounds of war and hate
A reoccurring nightmare that has become her dreaded reality
She no longer yearns to fight for her rights
They are out of reach, unattainable
Instead, she endures all the suffering
And prays for a brighter tomorrow
