artiststatement

I am first and foremost a Human, then a Woman, then an Arab, then an Iraqi, then a Canadian, then a student, then an artist. All of these factors play a role in my thoughts. My artwork is derived from all of the questions that come about when trying to figure out all of these labels, all of these categories, all of these constructions. The instructions I give to you while viewing the gallery is to consider the context. Consider all the elements around you right now, consider the situation we are in, and place yourself outside of the box. Enjoy.
But remember.... This is (still) all a Construction.

This is a portrait of the man in my life- My father, Taghlib. The image is of the mud
houses that are built by the bedouins of Iraq, and the text reads (in Arabic): Teacher,
Father, Man (provider), Architect, Human.
